LAHORE – Punjab Assembly Speaker and Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was elected as President of the party’s Punjab chapter unopposed in intra-party elections held here on Friday.
Also, Kamil Ali Agha was elected as party’s Punjab General Secretary unopposed. No other candidate filed nomination papers against Ch Parvez Elahi and Kamil Agha.
A meeting of the Provincial Election Commission was held under the presidentship of Mr Ishtiaq Ahmad Gohar advocate. Members Election Commission Mian Mohammad Munir, Javed Iqbal Goraya, Farah Deeba, Agha Usama Ahmad, advocate were also present.
Former Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood proposed the name of Ch Parvez Elahi for the office of provincial president. MPA Khadeeja Omer Farooqui proposed the name of Kamil Ali Agha for the slot of general secretary.
Afterwards, a virtual meeting was presided over by the newly elected president. Addressing the meeting, Ch Parvez Elahi said that Pakistan Muslim League being the party which created Pakistan was the guarantor of safeguarding the national security and the ideological frontiers of State of Pakistan. He said during his tenure as the chief minister he spread a network of people’s welfare projects for progress of Pakistan.
He further said that PML had always been at the back of defence institutions to strengthen the country’s security.
The newly-elected General Secretary presented two resolutions which were approved. In both the resolutions full confidence was reposed in the newly-elected President and he was empowered to activate the party and make appointments to vacant offices exercising his powers under the party constitution.
